Tips & Tricks for #GivingTuesday
Last year, over 700,000 people in over 70 countries raised over $117 million for good causes--in just one day! It’s become a global phenomenon, and you don’t want to miss out.
This year, YNPN is working with chapters all over the country to make #GivingTuesday easier than ever, and we want you to join us for the season of giving! Here are some tips and tricks we’ve learned from planning our #GivingTuesday campaign this year…
Choose a reasonable goal
Use #GivingTuesday as an opportunity to meet a specific goal without letting it distract from your end-of-year appeal. This is the time to increase awareness, connect with lapsed donors, and acquire new donors.
Focus on specific and relatable goals that don’t compete with your end-of-year goals. For example, challenge your supporters to engage on social media by sharing their stories or inviting a friend to like your page. Some organizations find success by choosing a specific project to focus on for the day, for example, $2500 for scholarships to a local conference or $500 to bring in a popular speaker to your next event.
Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday...and now #GivingTuesday. That’s a busy couple of days, and all of us are on email overload with holiday sales and fundraising appeals.
Make your #GivingTuesday communications direct, targeted, and concise. Send out email communications before Thanksgiving Day, late on Cyber Monday, and a couple throughout the day on #GivingTuesday to avoid getting lost in the crowd. Leverage your core supporters to communicate with their networks, and have at least one email come from a Board member or chair.
YNPN provides participating chapters with social media and email content--all you have to do is click send! You can also check out www.givingtuesday.org for logos, media kits, and examples of past campaigns.
#GivingTuesday is a great opportunity to showcase your organization, attract new supporters, and increase brand awareness ahead of your end-of-year giving. Choose a simple theme for the day, and then tie it to your goal, communications, and follow-up. Get chapter leaders and members involved and spotlight a supporter in the community that you’re proud to work with. Keep your communications positive and simple.
