Keeping it Real: Getting the Most Out of Your Conference Experience Without Being Awkward
Wednesday, July 31, 2019 | 8:00pm EST - Led by Amber Cruz Mohring, YNPN National Consultant
Have you ever attended an event or conference and not been sure how to effectively "network"? Or are you going to your first conference and already have anxiety about being awkward trying to meet new people? Attending conferences is a popular and efficient way to make an investment in your professional development but let's be honest, it can be hard to make authentic connections that lead to meaningful relationships and collaboration or learning opportunities. With the Leaders Institute just around the corner, we wanted to offer a safe space to talk about these challenges, sharing our best tips and hearing your advice for newcomers.
Join us for this session specifically curated to help you get the most out of any conference experience whether you're attending your first large conference or you're already a veteran with your own tips and tricks to share! Led by Amber Cruz Mohring, National Consultant to YNPN for the Leaders Institute, you'll walk away with a greater understanding of:
- Approaches to preparing for conferences
- Strategies for networking at conferences
- Processes for following up on connections made & lessons learned
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as a Practice
Wednesday, August 28, 2019 | 8:00pm EST - Led by Maryam Abdul, YNPN Advocacy Fellow
Organizational Culture, Hiring Practices, Burnout, Salary, Fundraising, Education, Budgets, Professional Development, Wellness, Engaging and Serving Communities; "These are a few of my favorite things."
EDI is applicable across topics and sectors. As we know, it's a practice, not a theoretical conversation piece. Join us to discuss the practice of EDI within the nonprofit sector.
Do you feel morally drawn to EDI principles but are unsure of how to implement them? Are you looking for ways to advocate for EDI practices within your organization/team? Do you have awesome EDI policies and want to share them? Are you just generally interested in Racial Equity and its application? Hopefully, at some point, you said "YES" to the previous questions because this session seeks to provide initial practical steps towards advocating for and implementing organizational practices of EDI. Come learn more about equity, diversity, and inclusion; share your expertise, and get resources and action steps for creating an inclusive and thriving work environment.
Maryam Abdul serves as YNPN's Advocacy Fellow, her previous work concentrated on qualitative research, racial/ethnic equity and inclusion policy practices within the workforce development sector, and connecting the systems of inequities to racial disparities. As a writer, Maryam believes in the importance of inclusive narratives and marginalized peoples telling their own stories.
